The MBA Flair 2007 competition is a Level 4 FBA Pro Tour event. It is open to all competitors from all countries. The competition will take place in Neptun, a resort on the Black Sea coast near the city of Constanta (Romania), on the 7th and 8th of August in 2007. The FBA together with Mondy's Bartending Academy bring you this world class event with $12500 in total prize money. All prizes are listed in US Dollars.

Rules

  1. All the competitors are to read the rules in full.

  2. If you have any questions please post them in the MBA Flair 2007 Competition Forum located in the FBA Members Lounge. You may also send an email to mike@flairco.com.

  3. Violation of any rule may result in disqualification from the competition.

  4. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in this competition.

  5. All bartenders must register to compete before July 31st.

  6. All expenses for travel, hotel, and food are the responsibility of the competitors. A discount will be provided for food and hotel accommdations.

  7. All competitors must arrive 1 hour before the event starts. Qualifiers starts at 6:30pm on the 7th and finals starts at 8:30pm 8th. Failure to be on time will result in disqualification.

  8. Practice may be performed in designated area only, which is the entire beach...

  9. All music must be in CD Audio format. Please bring at least 2 working copies as different audio equipment vary in ability. MBA is not responsible for unreadable music.

  10. Qualifying rounds will be 5 minutes and finals will be 7 minutes. 10 competitors will be in the finals.

  11. After the allotted time for the round is over, the music will stop and judging for technical eliments will be over.

  12. We will have a limited amount of 750ml bottles of each product. If you need several bottles, please bring what you need.

  13. Competitors may re-arrange the bar anyway they like as long as no items start on the top of the bar. Complete setup of the bar is 100% the competitors responsibility.

  14. Barbacks will be supplied to assist you in setting up your bar. The competitors may use other competitors as their own barbacks if they wish. Competitors may not use any assistance for the show during your round.

  15. For both qualifying and final rounds, competitors will prepare 2 cocktails and open either a beer or an energy drink. Drink 1 will be prepared using a Working Flair setup, and Drink 2 using an Exhibition Flair setup. You may make the drinks in any order or combination you wish.

  16. Working Flair Setup will use bottles set to at least 1/4 full and with metal #285-50 spouts.

  17. Exhibition Flair Setup will use bottles set to at least 15 ml (1/2 oz) of liquid and either metal or plastic spouts.

  18. Use of empty or closed bottles is forbidden. If the competitor uses empty or closed bottles, they will be deducted points. All bottles will be examined before the beginning of the performance.

  19. All spouts must be free flowing and not restricted or modified in any way.

  20. For the performance all the competitors should have their own non-brand bar equipment, which will be examined before the performance. During the performance competitors should use bottles of the sponsor, or bottles without trade marks and labels. Use of plastic training bottles or bottles of competing companies to our sponsors is forbidden.

  21. Each competitor will be required to perform a unique Stall to showcase the Finest Call bottle during their routine. This "Finest Call Stall" will not be worth any points but will be judged on creativity, difficulty, and over all execution. If you attempt the Stall, but miss, you will NOT be penalized for not hitting it, only normal deductions apply like a drop. If the competitor does not attempt a Stall with a Finest Call bottle, they will be penalized 50 points. This is something Finest Call wants within the round so please take this portion seriously and put forth your best effort, without our sponsors we would have no competitions.

  22. You may tape your clear bottles with no more than 3 stripes of tape that are no more than 1 inch wide. The top stripe may secure the spouts so they don't fly off the bottle.

  23. Any work with fire or pyrotechnics is forbidden.

  24. Organizers have the right to update the rules at any time.

  25. Organizers are not responsible for any injury or traumas received by the competitor during performance.

  26. Organizers are not responsible for any loss of personal belongings of the competitor.

*EMPTY BOTTLE FLAIR - Competitors can be penalized on two levels for Empty Bottle Flair. If the judges determine that the competitor DID NOT maliciously perform Empty Bottle Flair, then the competitor will receive the UNINTENTIONAL penalty (5 points). If the judges determine that the competitor DID maliciously perform Empty Bottle Flair, then the competitor will receive the INTENTIONAL penalty (30 points).

BONUSES: Dropped or spilled drinks may be remade before the time runs out. The remaking of drinks should also include some form of flair, be it a tin spin or a simple garnish toss.
